Hoy es un día especial porque ¡vamos a pisar suelo del continente antártico! Hasta ahora solo hemos visitado islas, pero hoy conoceremos el verdadero continente.
Por la mañana desembarcamos en Paradise Harbour (64º53’S, 61º52’W) con un tiempo excelente, quizá un poco caluroso. Es un lugar magnífico, con un paisaje que se refleja en las tranquilas aguas de la bahía.
Subimos a una pequeña colina para divisar un paisaje grandioso, envueltos en el silencio antártico, escuchando solamente las respiraciones de las ballenas y los quejidos de los glaciares.
Procuramos no hablar muy alto, para no romper el denso silencio que nos rodea. Simplemente observamos y escuchamos.
Después, mientras la mitad de los viajeros sube a la colina, la otra mitad damos una vuelta por la bahía para ver de cerca los impresionantes glaciares.
Esta vez, además, tenemos la suerte de contemplar unas ballenas jorobadas (Megaptera novaeangliae) que pasan la mañana con nosotros, ofreciéndonos imágenes imposibles de olvidar.
